Glossary: Order rules
Net 60
Net 60 is a payment term that gives a buyer 60 days from the start date, usually the invoice or order date, to pay an invoice in full. It is a longer step than Net 30 and is usually kept for large or long-standing accounts.
In detail
Net 60 works like any net term: the seller ships the goods now and the buyer pays when the 60 days are up. The start date matters, so write it on the invoice. Some sellers count from the invoice date, others from the ship date or the delivery date, and the due date can differ by weeks depending on the choice.
Buyers ask for Net 60 because it lets them sell the stock before they pay for it. A retailer buying for a whole season may want 60 days to cover a full sell-through, and large chains and distributors often treat it as the default.
For the seller, Net 60 keeps the money out twice as long as Net 30. That costs cash flow and raises the risk of late payment, so sellers usually limit it to buyers with a payment history, to accounts with a credit limit, or to orders above a minimum value. A common path is Net 30 for the first months, then Net 60 for accounts that pay on time.
Two tools soften the cost. An early payment discount such as 2/10 net 60 rewards buyers who pay in 10 days, and a late fee stated on the invoice discourages overdue payment. Keep the wording plain, for example 'Net 60 from invoice date, due April 30'.
Example
A furniture retailer orders $6,000 of stock on a Net 60 invoice dated March 1, so payment is due April 30. With 2/10 net 60 terms, paying by March 11 would settle it for $5,880.
On Shopify
Shopify's native B2B lists Net 60 among its net payment terms: net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90. All terms start from the day the order is placed, and payments are not captured automatically when the terms expire. Net payment terms are listed on all plans, while deposit requirements are Shopify Plus only.

In BSS B2B apps
BSS B2B Solution's Net Terms module offers Net 60 among its terms (due on receipt, Net 7, 15, 30, 60 or 90, end of month and custom), for logged-in customers, specific customers or customer tags. It creates a Shopify draft order that carries the payment terms, which you review by default or complete as an order. It does not manage credit limits. Net Terms is on paid plans, see the pricing page.
