How net 30 and 2/10 net 30 work
With net 30 you ship the order, send an invoice and give the buyer 30 days to pay. The buyer's cash is freed for a month, and you carry the risk and the cost of waiting. With 2/10 net 30 you add a reward for paying early: take 2% off if the invoice is paid within 10 days, otherwise pay in full by day 30. A 2% discount for paying 20 days sooner is expensive for you, roughly 37% a year (2 / 98 x 365 / 20), so offer it only if you need the cash. See early payment discount.
When to offer terms
Many sellers take card or prepayment on a first order and offer terms once a buyer is approved and has ordered a few times. Terms suit repeat buyers with a real business, references and a steady order size. Skip them for one-off buyers you cannot check. Offering terms also changes your pricing: carrying 30 days of credit is a cost, so factor it into the margin you set with the wholesale price calculator.
Credit checks
A basic check is calling the trade references and the bank reference on the application. Some sellers also buy a business credit report. Get the buyer's written consent first, and check local rules, because credit reporting for sole proprietors and individuals can be regulated.
Late fees and collections
State your terms before the first order, not after a payment is late. If you charge a fee or interest, write the amount in the agreement and on the invoice, and have a lawyer confirm what is allowed where you and your buyer are. Many sellers hold new orders until the overdue balance is cleared, which the sample covers in clause 6.
Turn on net 30 in Shopify
With native Shopify B2B payment terms
Go to Customers, Companies, open the company and then the location, click the edit icon in the Payment terms section and pick a term. The options are No payment terms (payment due immediately, the default), Net with 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days, and Due on fulfillment. A fixed date works only on individual draft orders. B2B customers see the terms on orders they place in your online store.
Shopify does not capture payment when terms expire, so you charge the buyer manually in the admin. Buyers can pay early with Pay now, and an order past its due date shows as Overdue. A deposit at checkout is available only on Shopify Plus. Shopify's page does not mention a credit limit setting. Source: Shopify Help Center: B2B payment terms, read October 8, 2026.
With BSS B2B Solution Net Terms
Go to B2B orders and discounts, Net Terms, and add a rule. Target logged-in customers, specific customers or customer tags, and pick when payment is due: due on receipt, due on fulfillment, within 7, 15, 30, 60 or 90 days, end of month or a custom period. The app creates a Shopify draft order that carries the payment terms, which you review by default or complete as an order. You must add the Net Terms button to the cart page through the theme editor, or buyers will not see it.
Two limits to know. BSS B2B Solution does not manage credit limits, so track each buyer's balance yourself. The order limit on a Net Terms rule is a cart minimum or maximum checked on the storefront, not a credit limit. Net Terms is on paid plans, and the docs list Advanced and Platinum, so check the pricing page.
For the credit application, a wholesale registration form with approval can collect business details and files, and approved buyers get a customer tag you can target with the Net Terms rule. Docs: Set up net terms for your B2B customers. We make BSS B2B Solution, so compare it with Shopify's native payment terms for your case. More on terms and order rules is in the order rules and terms hub.

Frequently asked questions
What does net 30 mean?
Net 30 means payment is due 30 days after the invoice date. The buyer gets the goods first and pays later, so the seller carries the cost of that credit.
What does 2/10 net 30 mean?
It means the buyer may take a 2% discount for paying within 10 days. If the buyer does not, the full invoice is due within 30 days. On a $1,000 invoice, paying in 10 days costs $980.
Do I need a credit application for net 30?
It is not required by Shopify, but it is common practice. A credit application tells you who the buyer is, who to invoice and which references to check before you give them credit.
Can I charge late fees on net 30 invoices?
Often yes, but the rules differ by country and region, and the fee should be stated in your terms and on the invoice. Have a lawyer check the wording for your jurisdiction. The sample leaves the amount in brackets for that reason.
How do I set up net 30 in Shopify?
In Shopify's native B2B, set Net 30 on a company location under Customers, Companies, in the Payment terms section. With BSS B2B Solution, create a Net Terms rule for the buyers you approve and add the Net Terms button to your cart page.
