AE-trading is a Dutch retailer of e-bikes, fatbikes and cargo bikes with a dealer portal for businesses. Bike shops and other registered companies apply for a partner account, then order at tiered prices that apply automatically in the cart. The price tables and rules run on BSS B2B Solution.
About AE-trading
AE-trading (ae-trading.nl) is a Dutch online store and showroom in Haarlem for electric two-wheelers. The menu, in Dutch, is a map of the range: e-bikes, fatbikes, skinnybikes, cargo bikes (bakfietsen), longtails, tricycles, folding bikes and parts. A separate Deals menu lists warehouse offers, and a Plan a test ride button sits in the header, a reminder that this is a shop with a physical showroom and a workshop as well as a webshop.
The home page promises at least two years of warranty on bikes, bikes delivered ready to ride, fourteen days of reflection by default, free shipping above a set order value and fast delivery from stock. Fatbikes are a strong theme, with named models from several brands and a mix of retail prices and sale prices on show. A visitor sees an ordinary consumer shop, and that is the point: the B2B portal is a layer on top of it.
The product catalogue is broad. It includes complete bikes and a long list of parts and accessories: bags, saddles, locks, displays and other spare parts. That mix is what bike shops and repairers need to restock, which suits a dealer portal.

The B2B model: a dealer portal for registered businesses
AE-trading is a hybrid store. Consumers buy at the listed price. Businesses apply for a free partner account and, once approved, get access to purchase prices through a B2B portal. The partner page names the businesses it is for: bicycle shops, bike repairers, rental companies, delivery services, leasing companies and any company registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) that is active in the two-wheeler trade in the Netherlands or Belgium.
The page lists what a partner gets: direct access to sharp purchase prices on fatbikes, e-bikes, batteries and parts straight from the company’s own warehouse, a fixed account manager, 24-hour delivery in the Netherlands and Belgium for orders placed before 17:00, a tiered discount from two pieces that is applied automatically in the cart, and invoice payment with a 30-day term after a credit limit has been approved. The invoice terms are an arrangement between AE-trading and the partner, so this story does not attribute them to an app. The tiered discount is another matter: it is the kind of rule BSS B2B Solution was built for.

A second page, the Dealerportal, makes the boundary explicit. It states that the section is only for registered partners and is not accessible to private individuals. For a retailer that sells to consumers and dealers from one domain, that sentence prevents confusion on both sides.

How the storefront handles wholesale
A two-step partner application
The application form is titled Aanmelden als zakelijke partner, which means Sign up as a business partner, and promises that it takes two minutes, is free and gets a reply within 24 hours. Step one asks for company name, contact person, email, phone number and a password. Step two asks for street and house number, postcode, city, VAT number and KvK number. A line under the form says that applications are for KvK-registered companies only, and that submitting means agreeing to the business terms and privacy statement.
The two-step layout keeps the first screen to five light fields and leaves the company identifiers for the second. The KvK and VAT numbers are exactly the identifiers a Dutch merchant uses to check that a buyer is a real business. One point of accuracy: this form is built with a separate form builder app on the store, not with BSS B2B Solution. BSS B2B Solution has its own registration forms with approval and a customer tag, and production data shows one configured for this shop, but this story does not claim that it is the form on the partner page. What follows after approval, a customer tag that unlocks partner prices, is where the BSS rules start.
From registration to delivery in four steps
The partner page spells out the path. Step one is registration, which takes two minutes with no obligation. Step two is activation: the team reviews the application and contacts the applicant within one working day. Step three is access and ordering: after approval the partner gets access to the B2B portal with its purchase prices. Step four is growing together: loyalty discounts, exclusive benefits and monthly market updates from the account manager.

The page also answers common questions in a short FAQ: what a business account costs (nothing), which businesses it suits, how the tiered discount works, whether the partner can pay afterwards, what happens with warranty claims and whether delivery covers Belgium. Pre-answering these questions keeps the sales inbox small.
Tiered prices that show up in the cart
The partner page describes the tiered discount as automatic: it is applied in the shopping cart as soon as the order quantity reaches a tier, with no negotiating and no requests. That promise only works if the store calculates the price itself, and AE-trading’s production data shows how. The shop has custom pricing rules for specific customers and for customer tags, volume pricing tables for a customer tag on a collection and for named customers, a discount code rule and a tax display rule.
The merchant’s own review mentions these features by name. It praises the volume discounts, the price display including and excluding VAT, and the custom settings that make it easy to serve both private and business customers. It also says the support team customised the price tables, optimised their display and adjusted the spacing around the tables so that they fit the page.
Which BSS features power it
Production data for the shop lists which parts of BSS B2B Solution are switched on. The table shows categories only, never counts of orders, customers or revenue.
| Experience | BSS B2B Solution feature | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Partner application with company, VAT and KvK numbers | Not BSS: the page form comes from a separate form builder app. BSS registration forms with a tag exist in the app and one is configured | Form markup on the partner page; an active BSS registration form with a tag in production data |
| Dealer prices for approved partners and named accounts | Custom pricing for customer tags and for specific customers | Custom pricing rules for a customer tag and for specific customers are switched on |
| Price tables that show quantity tiers | Volume pricing tables for a tag on a collection and for named customers | Volume rules are switched on and the table component is present on product pages |
| Prices shown including and excluding VAT | Tax display rule | A tax display rule is switched on, and the merchant’s review mentions this function |
| Codes for selected accounts | Discount code rule | A discount code rule is switched on |
To build the same flow, start with Tiered pricing and quantity breaks and Show a volume pricing table on product pages. Give tagged wholesale customers special prices covers the tag logic, and Show prices excluding VAT to business buyers covers the VAT display that the review mentions. The user guide has pages on volume pricing and custom pricing.
Three screens a dealer portal needs
These images are documentation examples, not AE-trading’s admin. The first shows the quantity tiers of a volume pricing rule: from, to, discount type and value, in a table that the store displays on the product page.

The second is the Customers card of a custom pricing rule. A rule can apply to all customers, logged in or not logged in customers, specific customers, customer tags or company locations. AE-trading uses specific customers and customer tags.

The third is the price display card of a tax display rule. It controls whether prices are shown with tax, without tax or both, and is how a store shows business buyers prices excluding VAT while consumers see prices including it.

What other merchants can copy
- Say who the portal is for. A list of business types, plus a registration requirement such as KvK, keeps private buyers out of the dealer flow.
- Split the application in two steps. Light contact fields first, company identifiers second.
- Show the path in four steps. Registration, activation, access and growth, each with a time. Buyers know what comes next.
- Promise tiers that the store calculates. Tiered discounts applied automatically in the cart need volume pricing rules, not a promise to negotiate.
- Use both tags and named accounts. Tags serve groups of dealers, and specific customer rules serve a key account with its own prices.
- Show VAT the way each audience expects. Business buyers usually want prices excluding VAT, consumers want prices including it.
- Keep payment terms separate from pricing. If you offer invoice payment, treat it as a credit decision between you and the partner, and say so.
AE-trading’s review on the Shopify App Store
AE-trading left a 5-star review of BSS B2B Solution on January 20, 2025, after eleven months of use. It is public on the app listing’s review page. The review is in English. One paragraph, about the price tables, is left out of the excerpt below, and the rest is verbatim:
I am incredibly satisfied with the service from BSS Commerce and can confidently give them a well-deserved 5-star review!
From the very first interaction, everything went flawlessly. The team not only answered my questions quickly and professionally but also resolved the technical issues with my Shopify store effortlessly. I also truly appreciated their excellent communication. Whether through email or quick responses to questions, the team was always available and actively thought along with me to find solutions. This not only shows their professionalism but also their dedication to customer satisfaction.
One of the biggest advantages of BSS Commerce is that their solutions are perfect for webshops looking to focus on B2B sales. Their functionalities for volume discounts, price display (including and excluding VAT), and custom settings make it easy to serve both private and business customers. This makes them an ideal choice for entrepreneurs looking to expand their sales strategies.
I am extremely happy with the end result. Thanks to BSS Commerce, my webshop now runs more smoothly than ever, and I feel more confident in my online activities. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, expert support for their e-commerce needs.
Thank you, BSS Commerce, you truly are the best!
AE-trading, Netherlands, review of BSS B2B Wholesale Pricing (BSS B2B Solution) on the Shopify App Store, January 20, 2025, 5 stars (excerpt)
The omitted paragraph says the team customised the price tables, optimised their display as requested and improved the page’s aesthetics by adjusting the spacing around the tables. Price tables take up the most words in the review, which fits a store whose partner page promises tiers.
FAQ: a dealer portal on a consumer store
Can I run a dealer portal on the same domain as my consumer store?
Yes. AE-trading serves consumers and dealers from one store. Approved partners carry a customer tag, and the rules for prices and tables apply to that tag, so consumers see consumer prices and dealers see dealer prices.
How do tiered discounts work for dealers?
A volume pricing rule lists quantity ranges and a discount for each range, and applies to a customer tag or to named customers. The table can be shown on the product page and the discount is applied in the cart. Rules combine in a fixed order, with price rules first and volume tiers on top.
Can I ask for a Chamber of Commerce or VAT number?
Yes. A BSS B2B Solution registration form can include text fields for any identifier, and its tax ID fields can validate EU VAT, UK VAT, US EIN, Australian ABN and India GST numbers live while the applicant types. A Dutch KvK number is a plain text field that you check yourself. AE-trading’s own partner form comes from a separate form builder app.
Can I show prices with and without VAT?
Yes. A tax display rule can show prices excluding tax, including tax or both, on product, cart and collection pages. AE-trading’s review mentions price display including and excluding VAT among the functions it uses.
Should I offer invoice payment to every dealer?
That is a business decision. The app has a net terms feature that applies payment terms to chosen customers, but you can also agree terms outside the app with each dealer, as AE-trading describes on its partner page.
