Shopify Native B2B vs BSS B2B Solution: Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus

Shopify's native B2B is enough if your buyers fit into companies, three or fewer catalogs cover your price groups, and you need no quotes, hidden prices or application checks. Add BSS B2B Solution when you price by customer tag, need more than three price groups, or want registration forms with approval, tax ID checks and order rules.

How we compared

We make BSS B2B Solution, so weigh our view accordingly. Every Shopify statement below comes from a Shopify page we read on October 4, 2026, cited with a number that links to the source list. Every BSS statement follows our review of the app against its code and user guides, and where they disagree we follow the code. Prices come from shopify.com/pricing and the App Store listing.

Where a Shopify page does not describe a feature, we say so instead of writing it as absent. Where we could not verify something, such as how a BSS rule combines with a native catalog price for the same buyer, we say that too. This page is due for a re-check by January 2, 2027. Who needs what: native only, or native plus an app

Start from your buyers and your price groups, not from the feature list.

Native B2B alone is enough when

  • Your buyers can be set up in the admin as companies with locations.
  • Three or fewer catalogs cover your price groups, with volume breaks and quantity rules on top.
  • Orders come through checkout, draft orders or the quick order list, and you need no quotes.
  • You invite buyers yourself or use the free Shopify Forms app for access requests.

Native plus BSS B2B Solution when

  • You sell retail and wholesale on one store and price by customer tag rather than by company.
  • You need more price groups than three catalogs allow, and Plus is not in your budget.
  • You want a registration form with approval, tax ID checks and automatic tags.
  • You want net terms, order limits or tax exemption targeted by tag, or price lists, a POS tile or an API (Platinum).

On Shopify Plus

  • Unlimited and direct company catalogs remove the main pricing gap, so BSS pricing rules matter less.
  • Deposits and partial payments are native on Plus; BSS does not offer them.
  • Plus still has no native quotes, CSV upload or application flow with tax ID checks, the usual reasons to add an app.

Shopify native B2B vs BSS B2B Solution: 23 features compared

Native B2B is split in two columns because the plan tiers differ in only a few rows. Each Shopify cell carries a source number. Each BSS cell names the plan that unlocks the feature, and the separate BSS app where the feature lives in BSS B2B Lock or BSS B2B Quote.

Advanced and up Hub: Order rules and terms
Quick order list and CSV upload Quick order list on every plan. Shopify lists CSV order upload as a third-party app use case.[1][3] Same. In BSS B2B Quote, a separate app: a quick order page and CSV or XLSX upload that merges duplicate SKUs. BSS B2B Quote Hub: Quick order and RFQ
Request for quote Not a native feature. Shopify lists quoting workflows as a third-party app use case.[3] Same. In BSS B2B Quote: you edit price, shipping and expiry, and a logged-in buyer approves by email, which creates a draft order and an invoice. BSS B2B Quote Hub: Quick order and RFQ
Hide prices from guests Not described on the B2B pages we read. Shopify points to third-party apps to lock parts or all of a store. A blended store cannot be gated.[3][4] Same. In BSS B2B Lock, a separate app: hide prices and Add to cart, lock products, collections and pages by tag, passcode or login. BSS B2B Lock Hub: Access control
Tax exemption Set per company location: collect tax, don't collect, or collect unless exemptions apply.[7] Same. The buyer enters a tax ID on the cart page and the app creates a tax-free draft order. It is not entered in Shopify checkout, and if the draft order fails the buyer is taxed at normal checkout. Advanced and up Hub: Tax and compliance
Currency and Markets B2B markets set currency, taxes, discounts and catalogs per group. Contextual checkout and storefront need Advanced or Plus.[13][1] Same, with contextual checkout and storefront.[1] Rules can target a Shopify Market. Discounts Automatic discounts and codes apply on top of catalog prices. A B2B market limits a discount to B2B customers.[10] Same. Discount Code and BOGO rules apply after price rules. Per the BSS user guide, Shopify automatic discounts do not work alongside Custom or Volume Pricing. Advanced and up
Shipping and payment methods Choose methods for B2B buyers. Shopify's checklist points to its free Checkout Blocks app to hide, rename and reorder methods and to set order limits.[9][3] Same. Shipping Rate and Extra Fee rules for targeted customers. An extra fee is a separate fee line. Advanced and up
Sales staff and POS Sales staff permissions on every plan.[1] Same. Shopify POS: staff tap the B2B Price tile to apply Custom Pricing, Price List and Quantity Break prices. Not automatic. Platinum
Automation and APIs Shopify Flow with B2B objects, B2B APIs, ERP integrations and custom headless storefronts.[1][6] Same. Auto Tag rules tag customers on registration and order events (no automatic untag). Public API for pricing rules and forms. Built for Online Store 2.0 themes. Auto Tag: paid. API: Platinum
Express checkout Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Amazon Pay are not compatible with B2B orders.[2] Same. Buy it now is hidden while rules are active, and express checkout or direct links can skip BOGO, discount code and extra fee rules. Theme-level behavior
If you uninstall Nothing to uninstall: native B2B is part of Shopify.[5] Same. Rules, forms and Price Lists live in the app, so prices built on them stop applying; customer tags and orders it created stay in Shopify. Our reading of the data model: test on a development store. All plans
Cost Included at no extra cost on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus.[2][14] Included. Plus starts at $2,300 per month.[15] Free, then $29 (Essential), $49 (Advanced) and $99 (Platinum) per month. See the cost section

Native cells follow Shopify's pages as read on October 4, 2026. Where a Shopify page does not describe a feature, we say so instead of writing it as absent. Row links go to the matching hub in the Shopify B2B guide.

Where native Shopify B2B is enough

A fair comparison says where an app is not needed. Native B2B is enough, and the better choice, in these cases.

A small set of named business accounts

For a few dozen companies, create each as a company, set its payment terms and tax settings, and assign one of three catalogs. Buyers sign in with a one-time PIN and see their own prices, with no app and no extra bill.

Net terms, quantity rules and volume breaks

Net 7 to Net 90 including Net 45, quantity rules and up to 10 price breaks per product are on every plan. Quantity rules are re-validated in checkout, which is stricter than a storefront script.

Plus with direct company catalogs

Unlimited catalogs, deposits and partial payments cover customer-level pricing and payment structure natively. Add an app only for what is missing: quotes, CSV upload, locking or an application flow.

Rep-led ordering

Draft orders, invoices, PO numbers, easy reorders and sales staff permissions are on every plan, so a sales-rep-led business can run on native alone.

Where BSS B2B Solution trails native

These are the gaps we know of, so you do not find them after installing.

  • No Shopify companies. BSS rules read tags and named customers. Approving an applicant creates or updates a customer with tags, not a company or location.
  • Payments. No deposits, partial payments, vaulted cards, ACH or reminders. Net Terms have no Net 45 preset (custom periods exist) and exclude guests.
  • Enforcement. Order Limits, Quantity Increments and the tax exemption form work through storefront scripts and a draft order flow, so a direct checkout link can skip them. Native quantity rules are re-validated in checkout.
  • Currency. Multi-currency is a display conversion. Checkout stays in the store or Markets currency, with no fixed price per currency.

How BSS B2B Solution works on top of native B2B

The two systems do not share a data model, so the clean way to combine them is to decide, for each buyer group, which one owns the price.

A native B2B buyer is a customer attached to a company location in the Shopify admin, who signs in with a one-time PIN and sees catalog prices. A tag-based buyer is an ordinary Shopify customer with a tag such as "wholesale". BSS rules find that buyer by tag, name or customer ID, so the buyer needs no company, location or catalog.

Tag-based customers: BSS does the work

Registration forms collect the application, you approve it, and the customer is tagged. Pricing rules, Net Terms, tax exemption and order limits then target that tag. This suits retail and wholesale on one store, a long tail of small buyers, and more price groups than three catalogs allow.

Native-B2B customers: keep native pricing, add what is missing

Large accounts can stay as companies on native catalogs, terms and tax settings. BSS can still target a named customer or, on Advanced and up, a company location. Do not assume a BSS rule and a native catalog price combine for the same buyer: we have not verified how they stack, so test a cart as that buyer.

Quotes, quick order and locks

BSS B2B Quote's quick order page and quote carts use BSS B2B Solution prices for customers who do not use native B2B. BSS B2B Lock hides prices and pages until a tag or login matches. Both are separate, optional apps.

Cost: native B2B vs native plus BSS B2B Solution

Native B2B adds no fee to your Shopify plan, so the comparison is your plan against your plan plus an app.

SetupMonthly costWhat it covers

Grow plus BSS B2B Solution Advanced$98 ($49 + $49), Grow billed yearly and BSS billed monthlyAdds net terms, order limits, tax exemption and multi-currency display
Advanced plus BSS B2B Solution Platinum$398 ($299 + $99), Advanced billed yearly and BSS billed monthlyAdds price lists, POS tile and Public API
Shopify Plus, native onlyFrom $2,300Unlimited catalogs, direct company catalogs, deposits, partial payments

Shopify prices are from shopify.com/pricing, read on October 4, 2026. BSS prices are from the App Store listing as of October 4, 2026; BSS B2B Solution has a free plan and a 14-day free trial on paid plans. The listing shows 4.9 out of 5 from 1,187 reviews.[15][16]

The sums are list prices before tax and other apps, and they compare cost, not capability. Advanced plus Platinum costs less than Plus but gives no unlimited native catalogs, deposits or partial payments. Shopify also notes that B2B and D2C orders can carry different variable platform fee rates.[2] BSS plan details are on the pricing page.

Adding BSS B2B Solution to a store that already uses native B2B

Steps for a store with native companies in place. The times are our estimates for a small catalog.

  1. List your buyers by type

Mark each group as company-based or tag-based and count the price groups. Three or fewer on companies may mean you need no app yet.

    About 30 minutes

  2. Install on a development store

BSS B2B Solution is free there. Rebuild one rule and one form first.

    About 30 minutes

  3. Give each group one pricing owner

Decide whether native catalogs or BSS rules price each group. Do not price one group in both until you have tested the result.

    About 20 minutes

  4. Create the tag, rules and form

Pick a tag such as "wholesale", add pricing rules that target it, then build the registration form that applies the tag on approval. Approval creates a customer, not a company.

    60 to 120 minutes

  5. Add terms, tax and limits

Net Terms, Tax Exempt and Order Limits need Advanced. Test each as a tag-based buyer, including a direct checkout link.

    About 60 minutes

  6. Test as each buyer type, then go live

Place a test cart as a company buyer and as a tag-based buyer. Check price, terms, tax and minimums, then Buy it now and express checkout. Add BSS B2B Quote or Lock only when a real gap appears.

    About 60 minutes

Going the other way, from a BSS price rule to a native catalog, is smaller: create the catalog, assign it to a B2B market, set up the company, then switch off the BSS rule so the buyer is not priced twice.

Steps 2 to 5 are where BSS B2B Solution does the work. Start on a development store, where it is free.

Limits of both

Neither option covers everything. These are the limits that most often decide the choice.

Native Shopify B2B

  • 3 active catalogs across all B2B markets on Basic, Grow and Advanced.[1]
  • Direct company catalogs, deposits and partial payments are Plus only.[1]
  • Needs new customer accounts, with buyers set up as companies. Legacy accounts cannot be used for B2B.[8]
  • Accelerated checkouts, subscriptions, tipping and checkout.liquid customizations are not compatible. Orders hold at most 500 line items.[2]
  • A blended store cannot be gated to B2B customers, and no way to hide prices from guests is described.[4]

BSS B2B Solution

  • Works on tags and named customers, not Shopify companies.
  • Order Limits, Quantity Increments and the tax exemption form run in the storefront; a direct checkout link can skip them.
  • Price Lists, Public API, POS and conditional logic in forms need Platinum. Net Terms, Tax Exempt, Order Limits and Quantity Increments need Advanced.
  • The Free plan is limited, for example one Custom Pricing rule and one registration form.
  • Auto Tag is not retroactive and never untags. The same email cannot register twice.

Test BSS B2B Solution next to your native B2B setup

Install it free on a development store, rebuild one price group as a tag rule and compare the cart with your native catalog. Add BSS B2B Lock or BSS B2B Quote only if you need hidden prices, quotes or CSV ordering.

Shopify native B2B vs BSS B2B Solution: frequently asked questions

Do I need a B2B app for Shopify?

Not always. Native B2B is included on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus and covers companies, up to three catalogs, volume breaks, quantity rules and net terms. You need an app for quotes, CSV order upload, hidden prices, registration with tax ID checks, tag-based pricing or more than three price groups.

Is Shopify's native B2B free?

It adds no fee to your plan. Shopify says B2B features are included on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus at no additional cost, though B2B and D2C orders can have different variable platform fee rates. Your Shopify plan is listed at $19 per month billed yearly on Basic and from $2,300 per month on Plus.

Do I need Shopify Plus for B2B?

No. Since April 2026 Shopify has been rolling out native B2B to Basic, Grow and Advanced. Plus keeps unlimited and direct company catalogs, deposits and partial payments. If you need none of those, a lower plan works.

What does BSS B2B Solution add to native B2B?

Pricing rules by customer tag or named customer, price lists beyond three catalogs, registration with approval, automatic tags and tax ID checks, plus net terms, order limits and tax exemption by tag. Quotes, quick order and hidden prices are in the separate BSS B2B Quote and Lock apps.

Does BSS B2B Solution work with native companies and catalogs?

It runs alongside them but does not create or manage them. BSS rules target tags, named customers and, on Advanced and up, company locations. Approving a registration creates a customer with tags, not a company, so you create companies in the admin.

Can one buyer get both a native catalog price and a BSS price?

We have not verified how a BSS rule combines with a native catalog price for the same buyer, so do not rely on stacking. Give each buyer group one pricing owner and test a cart as that buyer.

Does BSS enforce minimums at checkout like native quantity rules?

No. Shopify re-validates native quantity rules in checkout. BSS Order Limits and Quantity Increments run in the storefront, so a buyer who opens a checkout link directly can skip them. Use native quantity rules where strict enforcement matters.

How much does BSS B2B Solution cost compared with native B2B?

BSS B2B Solution has a free plan with limits, and paid plans are $29 (Essential), $49 (Advanced) and $99 (Platinum) per month, with a 14-day free trial on paid plans and 10% off yearly billing. Native B2B adds no fee beyond your Shopify plan: $19 per month billed yearly on Basic, $49 on Grow, $299 on Advanced, and from $2,300 on Plus. BSS prices are as of October 4, 2026.

What happens if I uninstall BSS B2B Solution?

Native companies, catalogs and payment terms are part of Shopify and are not affected. Prices built on BSS rules and Price Lists stop applying, while customer tags and orders it created stay in Shopify. This is our reading of the data model, so test on a development store first.
